FlashFXP >> http://www.flashfxp.com
(I'm sure i have already mentioned this though :p)
CuteFTP is still the best, but it's payware. Luckily I will soon have my linux system up and running so I can use proFTP which I like even more :)

I also like WS_FTP pro but i had to suit with the LE version(FREE) if only i had $40 then i could buy it.
I like WS_FTP, CuteFTP crashes on me funny and uses so much resource, and MSIE doesn't feel like an ftp program. heh Haven't tried SmartFTP yet.

FlashFXP and Bullet Proof FTP
I think thats FlashFXp is the best around, but to use it you will need $money||$crack ;)

assuming you mean a ftp client, not a server:
i use bullet proof ftp and IE if i'm too lazy to start bullet proof
if you meant a server:
bullet proof ftp server (BPFTPServer)

I like AceFTP. They have a freeware version at freeware.aceftp.com.... or DOS when I'm feeling nerdy

DOS huh? if you know where I can get a FTP for DOS v3.3 i would like to know(for my old laptop not my computer)
I sometimes use a command line (not really DOS in WinXP) for FTP. You don't need any extra software for that, just open your command line however you like and type:
ftp www.host.com
then <enter>
you'll be prompted for username, type it, then <enter>
then password (it won't show as you type), then <enter>
You can use an IP address or a named server
Basic commands you'll need are:
ls -la does a listing of all files in a directory
cd is short for change directory
type binary or ascii to change the type of transfer
get and put will download or upload
I personally use CuteFTP Pro, but thanks to those who remind me of BulletProof FTP, it was great, I'll have to track that down.
Oh, sorry, I didn't see the DOS v3.3 bit. I have no clue about that.

well maybe it will work the same way dude. i plan to re-build the laptop soon(i know I got old technology :)
WS_FTP always crashed on me (i use WinXP Pro), so i changed to FlashFXP. After using it for about a week its allot better than any other ftp program ive used!

i think at the end of the day it's just personal preference, there isnt anything really different in all the ftp clients out there. excluding dos of course :) though dos has it's advantages, for instance you can make a batch file to upload/download your site and put it in task sheduler to run while you're at work/sleep/whatever :D

AceFTP Pro absolutely rules.

Freeware version is still better than most

i already got my DOS laptop to automatly go to the only program it has just by clicking on my auth file i made(im a basic coder as well)
Speaking of batch files and all, I used to give my clients a VB script that would let them synchronize a folder with the FTP server. It ran through Windows Scripting Host and could be run as a scheduled task. Really pretty handy.
I now make "droplets" with DropSite Courier from the Frodis Company.
It's a Macintosh program that you make smaller cross-platform applications with. You set up the FTP parameters in advance and export the program for Mac or Win and distribute to anyone who needs to send files to you. Keeps you from having to give out your password and makes it as easy as drag and drop for your clients/friends

i think i'd be safe on saying notepad is sufficient for the bulk of languages :)
Perry :: you got a link to that frodis company site??
ToolTip85, the URL for Frodis is:

Also, FlashFXP saved my arse today. I had to change the group permissions on a few thousand files in many folders. FlashFXP's recursive CHMOD was just what I needed. My usual CuteFTP doesn't do it.

FlashFXP !
The best FTP software.
I tried WS_FTP, SmartFTP, CuteFTP, IE Browser and FlashFXP and the best Is FlashFXP.
Ya ive tryed all of those to BuildHome, and i have to agree, FlashFXP is way better!
I use SmartFTP these days. LeechFTP is a freebie I used to use, but I remember it being a little less intuitive. It's been a while though.

My beef with Notepad is that it can't deal with UNIX line breaks. I use EditPad Lite as my Notepad replacement (which also gives me line numbers and tabs-as-spaces).

after trying all the ftp programs
i got stuck trying to change multiple permissions for php files
no telnet and i was spending ages with cute ftp
its good at fast uploading as it does multiple files in one go but no recurrsive chmod so after finding this thread i tried flashfxp its saved me loads of time but when it comes to uploading in the first place cuteftp still is best

Hi there,
Try Command Prompt for Windows. No installation is required. =)
NextFTP has been a good friend of mine for such a long time now. Stable and user-friendly.
