hi,

does any1 know where i can get a good FTP thats free?
now i currently have WS_FTP LE which isnt allowing me to CHMOD and i have connecting probs with it. i dont want SmartFTP either(too complex to install)now i have:

Windows 98 SE
38MB RAM
75MHtz processor(i know its old and sllooowww)
if you know if a FTP plz tell me thx.

WS_FTP allows you to CHMOD ... right-click on the file or directory you want to CHMOD and use the CHMOD option in the menu that pops up.

I use WS_FTP all the time.

i know how but when i do it it says it did it, but if i log off and re-log in that folder isnt chmoded no more. also i have a probelm logging into my acct, i usually used my broswer FTP but IE 6 wont let me do it nemore(got it set to allow me to on settings)

sounds more like a problem on the serverside then... try contacting the support desk of your hosting provider and ask them what they advise.

well i had it working good b4 i went to use this FTP. once i used this 1 i got the probelms.

well thats fine in all but id need something after those 30 days. and also i went to that site and my comp is too old.i got a 98 and they say ME or higher.

maybe you can search for "Free ftp" at download.com , there is plenty of free one :D

well i dont want a crapy 1 i want 1 that relieable and ive seen that only the paid 1s are good, but i dont have the money.i already did that, thats how i got WS_FTP le.

well that 1 is only a trial version and it doesnt say what OS it supports.sorry if im being picky, but i dont have the newst computer on the block and the 1s every1 recommended were only free trials.i would like to have a free 1 i could keep longer than 30-days.

i found this 1 its called "AceFTP 3 Freeware" have any1 use this b4.

With FlashFXP, it supports every version of Windows since 95. Yes, its an evaluation, but its just a nag screen and then you have full functionality each time.

well i still looking around but the ace 1 is the 1 i found so far.have ne1 ever used smartFTP, cause thats what my server provider recommends.

That what I used it is a very nice software it is a full freeware version I use upload my web pages it works easy you can drag and drop files and deleted folders all once.:)

for those who installed smartFTP, does it just download a install file or does it download more than that?

You can download to the blank CD or you can used there online setup. There site is www.smartftp.com.:)

Do what every one else does.
Go www.kazaa.com and download a fully working version or go to http://astalavista.box.sk.
that will solve all your problems.

well i already got smartFTP installed on my computer thx though :) but i dont recommend kazaa because a bud of mine who had it got hacked and when i had it, it would always start once my computer was on(and i got a slow computer)

I'm very happy with CuteFTP, and I always prefer to find free utilities. Other than Windows' FTP utility, I haven't used anything else, so I can't compare. But, considering the $$ spent vs. the time saved, it was one of the biggest bangs for my buck...

SmartFTP rocks, it's what I have. And porl, most of us are developers, which means we're against stealing software, you might want to NOT make comments like that before you get flamed to next month.
