Since there are some very good quality developers roaming these boards, I thought I'd take the opportunity to pick their brains about BBClone ( http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/22285.html ) and the things people would like to see available.

You can go to http://bbclone.tuxfamily.org/demo.php and check out the static and dynamic demos before you speak your mind.

Appreciate the help.

Cons

1. Breaches simplicity.
2. Memory Inefficient. (one file is over 600kb!).
3. It isn't 100% OO (Object Oriented). This is a severe con becuase the script is very large for a counter!
4. It displays things the admin doesn't need.

Pros:

1. The stats page uses gfx. (that looks nice).
2. Logs some useful info. (not all of the info is useful tho).

Conclusion:

I wouldn't really class this script as a hit counter. It's more of a traffic monitor.

Personal View:

I wouldn't download this program. The amount of files and the total size of the program is VERY daunting!

Hi evo4ever, this is an open source script and one that needs developing for sure. The footprint has become large because of the original porting from BBStats to PHP (therefore BBClone) and many other additions. If you feel you would like to actually help us at the BBClone Forum (http://bbclone.topfunwebsites.com/index.php?t=msg&th=269&start=0&rid=0) (You don't have to even register) with some of the coding and more specific suggestions then you are welcome to. We simply aren't full time developers and if you tell us what the admins need, then this too would be very useful information.

Hope to see you there.

Rob

I'm looking for an accurate counter for a busy site with a lot of pages and I had been directed to BBClone by several sites. Sadly, it's just as you said, a traffic monitor and not an accurate way to track visits.

I will say that the staff was helpful in the beginning as I used the forum to try and figure out how to set it up. I did notice that they tended to ignore some questions, however, such as why it wouldn't track pages that were in subfolders. And they also didn't seem to understand why it frustrated me that each and every hit was counted. Who wants reloads counted?

Their final response to me was also a bit snippy, considering they advertise BBClone as the "hit counter on steroids"

I don't quite see what the problem is. You're running a low volume site as you already mentioned. The global counting (which assembles all hits from each of your pages) does tell the hits from the visits. If you can see how the hits spread all across your section you still get an idea of what people like most. I don't know why exactly it's important to know the visits (not hits) for each of your pages but the GPL gives you any freedom necessary to perform the changes on your own.

Honestly I doubt you will ever find a counter which does exactly what you want it to do, simply because no one is demanding it. Most of the counters even don't tell hits from visits. Development costs a considerable amount of time, just like running this forum. You get this for free, if you need customisations you may need to think about paying someone for this work. Or you spend some time learning PHP then you might be able to write such a program on your own.

I wasn't asking for any customizing, just help on setting it up so it would do what I thought it was capable of. Turns out, it's not capable of doing what I thought nor what I want.

Actually there are a lot of us that would love a counter that would only count an ip visit once per page per a set time period! It's just that nobody wants to make one, or give you more than 3 or 4. I had a reliable service through freewebware.com for almost 2 years that suddenly went offline a month ago and I'm ready to kill or pay for counters that are as accurate and unlimited! ;)

Personally, BBClone was a total waste of my time, I already have accurate stats from my web site provider but they only provide the visits for the top 10 pages. Hits for all, but not the visits, and I want an accurate number hits just can't give me that.

Perhaps this is a bit snippy of me now, but I've had well over 100,000 people thru my site in the last 22 months. Sure, there's bigger sites, but I hardly think I'm chopped liver either.

Just in case anyone is interested, 0.4 has landed and these are some of its highlights:

After more than two months of intense development BBClone 0.4.0 is finally out. This is quite a major leap:

* Country allocation of visitors by looking up our own database
* detailed page view stats of individual users
* listing of top visitor's host names
* optional timestats by unique visits instead of hits
* dns resolving can be turned off now

The link has now changed to http://bbclone.de

Bit excessive. I'd agree with the traffic monitor suggestion. Who wishes to display all that to a visitor. Who as a visitor wishes to read all that stuff?
Americans will love it!!
