View Full Version : which is most secure?
I have had problems repeadedly with certain people who seem to live to destroy message forums and want to know which FREE forum is most secure to keep unwanted pests out... I want it so people who want to be there can visit, but keep the creeps out who change names, forge emails etc constantly.. I want to block IPs, but many use common ISPs such as AOL etc and don't want to also block out friendly posters... Does this beast exsist?
By the way, phpBB has proven easy for these turds to get back in after getting banned etc..
Thanks

Most forums contain the basic essentials you are talking about there...
You can stop people by using the same email twice when registering, ban by email/ip/username/hostname... etc
There is no way to develop a totally 100% secure system but you can also block free email providers.. Then, they can change there ip etc..
indeed. if people truely want to get back in, they can get back in without a problem. ban usernames and they get a different username, ban e-mailaddy's and they create another new hotmail account, ban IP and they'll use a proxy or shell access on another server. no forum software can be built to permanently keep people away when they truely want to get in again, unless you want the result to be lots of friendly posters being blocked as well.
it truely sucks. but these asses exist, and there is little one can do about it I'm afraid, except for very active moderation.
of course, when people really bug you, trace down their ISP and report them there.

when you ban a email try banning: @hotmail.com that bans all hotmail address. To get rid of a user and you have his IP, Report it to there ISP, use HTAccess to block it as well as using the forums. Dont let people use the same email twice. make sure they have to validate there email. Try it. I do and it works :)

I would ban username then e-mail then IP. Most people would stop coming after that.

Really, its not possiable to ban a person from a forum, thats if they have dynamic ip. I thought banning the host ip would be good...but who ever is in that area gets banned also :( was kinda dumb

not to intrude but some ppl(IE ME) got a cheap internet provider who dont give email acct so we get the freebies like hotmail or yahoo.now i know most ppl that got the free 1s tend to not br active but i dont block ppl unles i get complants or if i heard about someone who is a spammer. now you can make a rule on your board saying if you do this your banned. y do it cause 1 person did it. thats my opinion.
neway XMB is a good secure board. there has been some security reports but i always get the fix ups as soon as i hear them. now YaBB isnt so secure. i moved from them cause theie current version has many flaws to it so i moved.
