I am pleased to announce that a completely revamped HotScripts.com back-end is currently in development. As we are still in the early stages of development, it is not too late to hear more suggestions for what you would like to see to take HotScripts.com to the next level.

Some of the major enhancements planned are:

* Dynamic site -- realtime changes and additions

* New fields for details about resources (i.e. Database types) -- your suggestion for these new fields are welcome!

* Completely revamped search mechanism

* Multiple sorting options

* Multiple "versions" of resources

* Enhanced listings

Much more.

Please provide us a detailed list of all the things you would like to see in HotScripts.com 2k4!

Well, I personally would like to see better control over voting. Earlier this year, I got a nasty email from a competitor accusing me of bringing down their rating and that they were going to make sure my rating suffered for it. I hadn't even visited Hotscripts since adding my listing quite some time ago, so the whole thing seemed a bit surreal to me. But indeed, they drove my rating down with a bunch of low votes and pushed theirs up at the same time. It's a shame that people can abuse the system so easily, and by doing so, they make the whole rating system worthless.

Hi!

I agree completely. I have been having lots of problems with bad reviews. At the moment, any one person can write one bad review and it will bring down the rating massively. Also, at the begining, when there are very few votes, a single low vote brings down the rating massively.

The system needs to be much fairer.

One suggestion is to have ratings and reviews "attached" to a version of the script. So, if version 1.0 gets reviewed and rated, then when a new release (say 2.0) comes out, a fresh set of ratings is created. A history of reviews and ratings can be kept.

And before everyone jumps and screams about having their hard-earned reviews/ratings scrapped, remember that this is how it's done for every other software in the world. That is how magazines review software, how operating system reviews are done, and everything else! We all remember that Linux was hard to install in 1995, but now it is quite easy. Why should a review from 1995 still hold any weight now?

Scripts evolve, time moves on, but at the moment, the reviews stay.

I definitely like this idea personally. As scripts evolve, the old reviews would not necessarily apply anymore. Having the script version which is being reviewed in the review would definitely help someone who is reading the review.

I would like to see HotScripts respond to the senders of feedback that is sent by registered users when there is a problem with submissions. At this point there doesn't seem to be a way for us to contact you with concerns and problem except thru the feedback form, and nothing seems to happen with this method.

2 points I would like to make

Voting:
Prevent abuse of the system, use both a PORTION of the IP address (use only the leftmost 2 or 3 parts of the IP address) and the client browser's USER AGENT tag as a single identifier to uniquely identify them and prevent them from 'spamming' the votes.

Ranking listing and Searching:
The current system of ranking one website over the other could well be mute, if there is a proper search listing that matches the users preference, in other words the user wants to list the OLDEST scripts first, maybe he wants it in alphabetical, etc.... That could also go a long way to helping this website.

All the best

Little feature I'd like it a return page on submit.

So if I'm adding to a category I can click to go right back to the category after submitting. ;)

Can't wait to see the new changes.. I especially am looking forward to enhanced searching.

Like perhaps searching in the individual categories of a section.. Perl>Discussion Boards.. as opposed to just Perl.

Sorting would be incredibly helpful. Say what you will about eBay, but they have the best sorting mechanisms I've ever seen. If you want to you can search either the whole site, or a specific category, get things that are related that would not have otherwise come up, and then you can find things by price owner, etc by changing the ascending descending order of the rendered list. It's great! Seriously, it would make hs a lot easier to navigate and work with. Just a thought.
