Hey everyone,

I need a PHP script (w/ or w/o MYSQL backend) to do the following:

- Post articles (with several spanning pages)
- Allow people to add comments
- Have user registration built-in for the comments
- Allow authors to upload images to use in stories
- Build static or PHP pages with the stories
- Stories should be one page per article (not all on the homepage)

I've found PostNuke, PHPNuke - and these scripts don't have what I want (too much extras). I'm trying to avoid ezPublish, b/c my server cannot handle the script.

Any other ideas?

Have you thought about trying to build something yourself?

If you want to keep it simple, its probably pretty easy using an mySQL back end.

Then again, what about just installing PHP Nuke and removing the options you dont need?

I'd steer clear of the Nuke branches, because they're indeed a bit too big for what you want, and additionally, some of the branches are not that secure either.

ezPublish is also way too big for what you want.

You might want to try something like mamboserver which is still in development and I think it does what you want (not sure though, been a while since I last checked their site). or maybe phpWebsite or something like that.

I don't that script is going to work...

Too much like Nuke, where it's module based.

I really want to find a script that is designed for news publishing / and or content management.

Mambo is good, except when I tried to visit their site the server was down.

there are 1000 hehe well maby not 1000 but there are scripts on HS its self, and what flipsix said would be better :) just try creating a VERY simple script, and then you can slowly make it better, untill you think its prefect :)

Thanks.

Does anyone know what product techtv.com uses to power their backend? That's like what I want to emulate...

Nah don't re-invent the wheel. There are hundreds of scripts like what you want, did you check the listings on this site?

Try these?

http://www.geeklog.net
http://www.cafelog.com
http://www.phpmachine.com
http://www.moveabletype.org

The blog tools are lighter, but you can modify them (finding hacks) to get it to do what you want. The portal scripts are a lot heavier with many many options you probably don't need.

Wonder why someone hasn't made just a good plain article script (w/o all the extras)...

Something that would power a newspaper... only open-source!

It seems that every script either has a unique feature or something that I don't need!!

how about trying, to get an idea from 1 of the scripts, and then making your own, so you can get what you want and then give it to all of the people who want the same thing as you :)

http://cafelog.com does that actually. Your articles can display 'teasers' (parts of the story) or be broken down by pages, etc. You just have to play with the options to get it to display how you want it to.

Thanks, saw that script, but didn't really pay attention -

(must of been the image on the homepage...)

It seems like it'll do what I want.

And I don't really want to write my own script since like Pineapple said, there is prob. a script that will already do what I want - besides it's easier to install a couple scripts and customize then writing one from scratch or from some other author's weird code

whatever you choose.. theres no script as good as your own.

Remember if you make it the way you want, it will be the best script for you.
