View Full Version : diWEBlo problems

I downloaded a pearl script called diWEBlo from a link from this site. It is a simple content management script which involves creating an HTML form to submit to the script, an HTML template for the script to update and a template file instructing the script on where these files are (called .template). The script seems to have been designed for use on an NT server but I want to use it on Unix. Surely it shouldn't need much fiddling with to work on NT?
It is nice and simple and very easy to customise the pages so ideal for someone like me who does good HTML but ain't much of a programmer. Unfortunately the guy who wrote it seems to have gone AWOL and the instrucions with it are very basic.
I have the script running on my Unix server but it gives back an error when I complete a form: An error occured while processing your request. The error message is: template file 'http://www.mydomain.com/diweblo/diweblo.template' is not openable
'not openable' seems rather a general error. It is onlt a text file which opens in a browser if you copy and paste the url.
Please, please, please can anyone help me? If you need a copy of the script it can still be found at http://www.zone-h.org/files/36/diweblo_pl_txt.htm

Well, "not openable" isn't even a sensible error in the English language. :-) As for it not having permission, the error seems to insinuate that you're trying to open a URL and not a file. What is the function that's failing? Are you using LWP or something to grab and open a URL? Does this script have error logging or report what the problem is/i.e., what it can't open and why ($!)? If if lacks these checks, it's probably a script you shouldn't wate your time using.

steveash,
I just found your post on Google when searching diWEBlo, since I wanted to try it. Did you get it working? I am getting the script header error which means there is a syntax error. The script is being tested on a Unix/Apache server. Maybe we can help each other. Email me.

I found a better alternative that works! Try Web File Editor at http://www.cgi.veinotte.com/. It worked on the first try! But this requires the user to enter the path to the file, the name of the file, the text to find and replace, and the replacement text. :)

Good to hear that you find a working alternative. In the future, you might want to check out the scripts request or jobs forums.
