I have been pondering which type of site to build in an effort to earn residual income. My ideas have ranged from a multi category classified ads site to a for sale by owner type site. I was wondering if someone that has gone through the trials and tribulations of figuring out the best way to generate web traffic and earn income, would share their success. Is it possible to actually make a living on the web?...It seems so elusive. Please feel free to ad your comments.

Thanks!

Seem like doing "classified ads site to a for sale by owner type site" don't really earn alot of money

i am also actually considering building a site that will attract alots of people , so maybe providing some service... and etc

Jerome,
You might be correct about the for sale by owner sites. It is so hard to tell which sites are attracting the most visitors. Wish there were a way to get the stats on such a thing. I am so past the trial and error phase. What is your take on the whole affiliate money making program. Do you think that people are actually doing very well. I am sure the ones that have the most traffic are doing pretty good. What we need is a traffic machine ...

I guess a lot of it also has to do with search engine ranking...something at this point that has been extremely hard to get a handle on.

i have a website that makes a steady income(although not enough to live, but a little bit on the side), i think the way to do it is to mix income with attraction. e.g someone wont visit a site full of ads if theres nothing on it. put a site with something that will interest them as well as things that will make money

markspec87 I totally agree with what u are saying . I even like the idea of setting up a forum like this one. It seems to have a constant change of user inputed content. But once i finally arrive on the theme and style of the website , you still have to promote it. The question is what is the most effective way, search engines, spamless email (if there is such a thing) webrings, or FFA boards. I am researching the idea of doing a 3d virtual tours site, partnered with realestate brokers. Have'nt come up with the best 3d lens and software package. Ipix is good , but the keys will cost u a fortune.
