Ive been working on my own portal system for about 9 months now.

I just recently finished up v3 beta 6 of it. Since i cant seem to get any "real" comments out of it i would like to know what other people think of it.

The newest version can be seen at www.invisionportal.com (http://www.invisionportal.com)

I scripted this portal with ASP (yes classic asp). Im open to suggestions on how i can improve it

this may sound harsh... you really want to improve it ? scrap it and make it in php ! much faster interpreter, easier to code and much more stable !

Sorry but as you can notice...i hate asp :)

I'd have to agree with Damian... PHP is a much better alternative.. Other than it being ASP, I like it... I like the layout more than anything, the colours are easy on the eye and it looks very modern...

As for improvements, maybe use javascript to expand or collapse indivdual sets of sublinks on the left hand menu (as opposed to just showing or hiding all sublinks)

Well it looks good, reasonably small and fast. I am a big PHP guy, but it's true... there are enough protals for php and not enough for ASP.

Of course what I can't tell from just looking at it is: extensibility and ease of customization. Unfortunately I don't have time to look into that :)

I think its great mate,

I am a PHP fan myself but have no problems with this site. At the end of the day the site works well and you've done a great job with ASP.

I feel that if the site functions without error and looks great it should not matter what scripting language you see - most people who visit non-scripting sites dont even know what PHP/ASP is.

Well done mate :)

Well to use ASP you need a windows webserver (or a linux webserver with ASPChili) for both alternatives you have to pay (Microsoft or Chili!Soft)

PHP is free, stable, secure has a big development community, lots of tutorials and books, good documentation and it's free free free

Always remember the following: Software is like sex, it's better when it's free!
The same goes for PHP and ASP ;)

Yours sincerely

nice portal ... you can be the "People's Portal Maker" if you really go PHP ... i know you hate PHP , but competiting for a Global Pie of PHP Portal is the reall challenge .. so try it :D

Some improvement .. more nice graphics :D

I wonder if there is a PHP script the could troll the ASP forum and just add the reply " It would be much easier if you done it in PHP"? :)

I know this is a little 'late' but oh well.

I really like that Maddog, nice one. The graphics and functionality is just superb.

Just one question, will it be free?

The portal costs $50 without support, $75 with support. But you get all updates for free.

it's good. I like the interface.

And I know I shouldn't say this and I should mind my own business, but this would have LOADS more potential if written in php. Sure you have all of the basic portal features all done exceptionally well, but the feature set could probably triple if written in php. Just my o-pinion.

Well ASP is harder than PHP from what I've seen. My friend works with both PHP and ASP. He has shown me code in ASP to do something that it would only need about a third of the code to do it in PHP. To me ASP looks like a nightmare. As for the portal. Looks good. Very good. As for those who say do it in PHP, it would just me another Nuke-like portal. There are already enough of them.
